About Myths of China
Myths of China is an English-language knowledge platform dedicated to exploring the gods, legends, mythical creatures, and ancient stories of Chinese mythology.
Chinese mythology is one of the oldest and richest mythological traditions in the world, spanning over 5,000 years of civilization. Yet for English-speaking audiences, it remains less accessible than Greek, Norse, or Egyptian mythology. Our mission is to change that — to make Chinese mythology as well-known and well-understood as the mythologies of other great civilizations.
Rather than a simple blog, we are building a knowledge platform where every god, creature, legend, and symbol is interconnected. Our entity-based approach means that reading about Nezha connects you to the Dragon Kings, Journey to the West, and the Investiture of the Gods — building a web of understanding rather than a collection of isolated articles.
Our Approach
We combine rigorous research with engaging storytelling. Chinese mythology is complex — with multiple versions, regional variations, and the interweaving of Taoist, Buddhist, and folk traditions. We strive to present this complexity honestly, noting where traditions differ, rather than oversimplifying for convenience.
As our platform grows, we will be adding interactive tools — including a Chinese zodiac calculator, I Ching divination, and an AI-powered mythology explorer — to help visitors engage with Chinese mythology in new and meaningful ways.
