The Bull Demon King — Great Sage Equal to Heaven (平天大圣), eldest of the seven sworn demon sages of 《西游记》 — matches Sun Wukong as the novel's mightiest monster: bull-headed, iron-staffed, riding the water-parting golden-eyed beast, lord of Jile Mountain. Fiery yet oddly noble, he is the Monkey King's truest rival.
