东海龙王敖广

East Sea Dragon King Ao Guang Wallpaper

This wallpaper depicts East Sea Dragon King Ao Guang (东海龙王敖广), one of the most beloved figures in Chinese mythology. The composition follows the traditional iconography recorded in classical texts and centuries of temple murals, water-land ritual paintings and New-Year prints — not an invented modern design.

Ao Guang of the Eastern Sea rules the crystal palace in 《西游记》 and marshals the dragon hosts in 《封神演义》; the four dragon kings of the seas owe their courtly Chinese form to these Ming novels. Dragon-king temple statues dress them as imperial princes — crown, vermillion or golden robes, pearls of wisdom in hand — with the underwater palace and its shrimp soldiers and crab generals behind.
