二郎神杨戬

Erlang Shen Wallpaper

This wallpaper depicts Erlang Shen (二郎神杨戬), one of the most beloved figures in Chinese mythology. The composition follows the traditional iconography recorded in classical texts and centuries of temple murals, water-land ritual paintings and New-Year prints — not an invented modern design.

The hunter-god of Guankou appears in 《西游记》 (Journey to the West, ch. 6) as the valiant true lord who subdues the Monkey King, and 《封神演义》 (Investiture of the Gods) gives him the name Yang Jian. Later tradition completed the iconography: a third eye opened on his forehead, the three-pointed double-edged lance, and his faithful Xiaotian hound — the form seen in Ming–Qing temple murals and New Year prints.
