四大天王（四大金刚）

Four Heavenly Kings Wallpaper

This wallpaper depicts Four Heavenly Kings (四大天王（四大金刚）), one of the most beloved figures in Chinese mythology. The composition follows the traditional iconography recorded in classical texts and centuries of temple murals, water-land ritual paintings and New-Year prints — not an invented modern design.

The Four Heavenly Kings — Dhṛtarāṣṭra of the east, Virūḍhaka of the south, Virūpākṣa of the west, Vaiśravaṇa of the north — guard the world in the Agama sutras (《长阿含经》), and their colossal statues flank the Hall of the Heavenly Kings in every Chinese Buddhist temple. Each carries his emblem: pipa lute, sword, serpent or dragon, and precious umbrella, the four together watching over the Dharma.
