《山海经·海外东经》 describes the Valley of the Hot Springs where the ten suns bathe, perched as three-legged golden crows on the great Fusang tree — nine on the lower branch, one on the upper, taking turns to cross the sky. 《淮南子》 tells how Yao's age saw all ten rise at once, until Yi the Archer shot down nine, and the nine crows fell with them. The three-legged crow carrying the sun is one of China's oldest solar images.
