朱雀（南方神鸟）

Vermillion Bird Wallpaper

This wallpaper depicts Vermillion Bird (朱雀（南方神鸟）), one of the most beloved figures in Chinese mythology. The composition follows the traditional iconography recorded in classical texts and centuries of temple murals, water-land ritual paintings and New-Year prints — not an invented modern design.

The Vermillion Bird of the South rules the southern quadrant of the sky in the Four Images system, presiding over the well, ghost, willow, star, spread and wings constellations, and over summer itself. 《山海经》 paints the southern realm in fire and feathers; the bird's form — phoenix-like, all flame and vermillion — fixed itself in Han dynasty tomb art and never left.
